My interest in photography started with an iPhone 8 and walks around Peterhead while I was studying childcare at college. It was a hobby—something I enjoyed exploring whenever I was out and about.

In 2019, I decided to take a “gap year” from childcare and try the first year of a photography course. I wanted to learn the basics and get better at something I enjoyed. I bought my first camera when I joined, and I still use it today, alongside the equipment I’ve added along the way.

What started as a year of learning became a new direction. I made great friends, learned from lecturers who were working photographers and fell in love with the possibilities photography offered. I continued my studies and graduated with an HND in Photography in 2022.

The course encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, photographing models, friends and strangers, and even creating a promotional video for a local gaming café. Those experiences gave me opportunities to explore different ways of telling a story through images.

What I love most about photography is how it has changed the way I see the world. Places I once walked past without a second glance now make me stop and think about the photograph I could create. I notice light, details and possibilities in surroundings I used to find ordinary.

That curiosity is at the heart of Luminous Shots Photography. Whether I’m photographing a person, a business or the action unfolding at an event, I take inspiration from the people and places in front of me.
